It’s winter and we are back in the mountains!
mob at the start
Last weekend Masha and I did our first ski tour of the season. From the parking near Spitzingsee area we went up and around Rauhkopf.
through the woods
The first 100m under the lift was packed but people quickly spread out. I think 90% of skiers out that day were headed to Taubenstein and not beyond. So only saw people on the first third of the route.
coming out of forest path
As mentioned in the guide book the tour to Taubenstein is good for kids. And kids we saw. Not sure if it is inspiring or embarrassing when a 12 year old passes on the ascent. Either way hope I have little ski tourers someday.
first powder turn of the season
Not being much for the rocky bit just before most Alp summits we ended up making a route to find the freshest powder in the area. Having snow just a few days before the snow was outstanding. Especially for early season skiing.
sinking
Gear wise there has been a few changes from last season. Masha is rocking a new Arcteryx mid layer and me new Marmot pants. Feels so weird buying warm cloths in summer. Chasing those deals. I’ll do another ski gear review at the end of the season.

Before heading down we consulted the outdoor active app maps. Safety is my number one goal and I try to balance that with a route that is unique and steep enough to get some big powder turns in. Next to some steeper terrain that could be more avalanche prone we found a perfect path through the woods.

Only 800m of total elevation gain but, two days later, I was still sore! Hope to make more tours in the coming weeks to get in shape and share them with you.
